City of York Council retains a team of skilled stonemasons to undertake preventative and reactive repairs to the City Walls, as well as capital works. Since the City Walls are a scheduled monument, as well as being governed by the conservation management plan, all works are subject to receipt of scheduled monument consent granted by Historic England on behalf of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
