This record is from the NMR for miscellaneous prehistoric finds from York. Where grid references were provided, individual records have been created.

Miscellaneous prehistoric finds from York, including Neolithic stone and flint implements, Early Bronze Age beakers, a range of Bronze Age bronze implements including a hoard of socketed axes, Iron Age material including coins, as well as some Iron Age situlae and fibulae said to come from in or near York. Some of these items are in York Museum.

[Marginal] Prehistoric finds from York include beakers; bronze implements of all periods including a hoard of socketed axes; flint and stone implements including a greenstone adze with curved blade, and arrowhead and axe of long barrow type. Two Early Iron Age bronze situla and two Italian Hallstatt brooches are said to have been found in or near York, also a stater of the Brigantes or Coritani (Mack
type 463) (1-3).

York Museum records the undermentioned prehistoric finds from York (all of which are on display) but in no case are any precise details of provenance available.
I. E.B.A. beaker from an area centred at SE 598 525.
II E.B.A. perforated axe hammer found 1886 at SE 598 509
III E.B.A. flat axe found pre 1884, provenance unknown.
IV L.B.A. socketed axe found on 'The Mount' in 1872 (Area centred SE 594 511).
V L.B.A. spearhead from High Ousegate (SE 603 517).
VI I.A. Belt plate from York railway station (SE 596 517).

The provenance of the B.A. hoard is unknown, but the hoard of flint and stone implements (as described above) is assumed to have come from an area centred at SE 584 521 (4).
