Summary

Traces of settlement of Romano-British form show as cropmarks on aerial photographs of Dunnington Common. One complex is centred on SE 674 513. It comprises a length of ditched trackway 270 m. long, with part of another of sinuous plan , and about 70 metres long, to the south-west. Adjacent to these are fragments of possible enclosures, with one more complete which measures 70 metres by 50 metres.

Full Description

Traces of settlement of Romano-British form show as cropmarks on aerial photographs of Dunnington Common. One complex is centred on SE 674 513. It comprises a length of ditched trackway 270 m. long, with part of another of sinuous plan , and about 70 metres long, to the south-west. Adjacent to these are fragments of possible enclosures, with one more complete which measures 70 metres by 50 metres. (1)

This complex was originally recognised in 1996, with subsequent aerial reconnaissance of the area in 2006 revealing further details of the cropmark complex (Historic England Archive UI: 1172477). This site is directly adjacent to the line of the Roman road between Brough on Humber and York.
