Full Description
House, now flats. c1875. Mottled brick and white brick with some painted stone dressings. Slate roof. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys. At the left there is a 2-storey canted bay window of white brick with sashed lights and a flat roof. To the right on the 1st floor there is a pair of narrow sashed windows without glazing bars. At 2nd floor level there are three C20 pivoting casement windows. The doorway, at the right, has a surround of white brick with stone caps and bases and a plain stone frieze and cornice. The door has 4 panels and the overlight has a segmental top. To each side of the external steps there are short lengths of barleysugar cast-iron railing. At the eaves there are projecting courses of white brick. At the left of the facade a brick pilaster strip is capped by a stone kneeler with ball finial. Chimney to left. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: the front garden railings have spear head finials and are set on a brick wall with stone coping. At the right the wall and railings curve around to return towards the house and contain an iron gate with iron gateposts which have ball finials. This wall abuts the front wall of the house and forms the boundary with No.21 (qv). The left-hand garden wall is of brick and abuts the house. Nos 1-22 Bootham Terrace form an unusually complete row of speculatively built terraced houses, constructed between 1860 and 1870 to an interesting variety of different designs.
