Full Description
NMR Information:
(SE 57945604) Rounded corner of ? earthwork visible on AP. (1)

(In view of its relationship to the Roman practice camps on Bootham
Stray, 1 1/3 miles to the SE, it seems possible this may be another
of the same class). (2)

Mr H G Ramm investigated this site on the 12th of May 1954, and
summarizes his report as follows:
There was no ground evidence of the feature visible and no evidence
of intense human occupation as might be the case if the feature
represented a Medieval moated or ditch site. There were few finds,
some sherds probably Medieval and fragments of brick and tile Ramm
concludes that the lack of evidence of any intense occupation inside
the feature is consistent with it being a Roman practice camp. (3)
Brecks Field. The site was rejected for inclusion in the published
volume of RCHME: Roman Camps in England Project. (4)
