Summary

House, now restaurant, built in the mid 18th century with early 19th and 20th century alterations, and 20th century shopfront. The front of the building is of painted brick in Flemish bond, the rear and right return are of orange-brown brick and a double span pantile roof with timber guttering on paired block brackets and brick stacks.

Full Description

House, now restaurant. Mid C18 with early C19 and C20 alterations, and C20 shopfront. Front of painted brick in Flemish bond, rear and right return of orange-brown brick; double span pantile roof with timber guttering on paired block brackets and brick stacks.

EXTERIOR: 2-storey 2-window front. Plate glass shopfront. First floor windows are 12-pane sashes with painted flat arches. Rear: 2 storeys, 3 windows. Ground floor obscured: on first floor, C20 window to left, two 12-pane sashes to right, all in altered openings. Brick eaves band with heavy brick dentils. Right return: two external stacks; blocked pigeon loft with two landing platforms in gable end.

No. 21, of two storeys and attics, was built in the mid 18th century on the usual plan of central transverse staircase between single rooms to front and rear. In the early 19th century the staircase was rebuilt and some fittings were renewed; the ground-floor shop was wholly modernised in the 20th century and a new staircase to the first floor made in the back room.
