Description

Building recording of no. 14 Lendal, York, a five storey early 18th century townhouse previously known as “Fitzwilliam House”. It is preceded by a detailed design and heritage statement produced by York Conservation Trust in May 2016. No. 14 Lendal forms one half of a pair of townhouses which includes nos. 10-12 Lendal. The building underwent substantial changes in the 19th century, when it was converted from a residential dwelling into business premises. Despite this, it still retains much of the original ground plan and interior decoration on the upper levels, and it is believed to be the earliest-known building in York to use segmental arches above windows.
