Description

B&B Otley 2008 Discretionary Trust are seeking outline planning permission for a site for touring caravans and motorhomes on land at Wheatlands, Northfield Lane, Upper Poppleton, York. A potential Roman Road is thought to run both east and west of the proposed development site. The alignment of the putative road could run through the Site, but it may also run parallel to the Site’s southern red-line boundary. Medieval/post-medieval broad ridge and furrow is evident in some of the fields surrounding the Site. The current field boundaries show evidence of their previous inclusion as part of an open field system, where they would have been farmed in strips. A study of the available mapping from the mid-nineteenth century onwards, indicates that this area has remained in agricultural use from this period onwards.
