Description

The site was 5.1 hectares in size and 1500m2 of trenching was conducted. Fifteen Evaluation Trenches were excavated and all were 50m by 2m in size. Three trenches contained an area of modern disturbance, possibly relating to the use of this field as part of RAF Elvington in the 1940’s. This feature was visible in Trenches 7, 8 and 9, and was aligned north-west to south-east. In Trench 8, this feature measured 6m across and a 2.5m by 1m segment was partially excavated, to a depth of c. 1.20m from the ground surface. This feature corresponds to Anomoly D noted on the Geophysical Survey.
