Description

Site located within the area of the Roman colonia on the west bank of the Ouse. It is likely the Skeldergate and Fetter Lane street frontages were occupied by the Anglo-Scandinavian period, and that much of the land to the rear was built on during the medieval period. During the 19th century, the land seems to have been used for workshops, small-scale housing, and public houses. 20th century, the site became developed as large warehouses. Desk-top survey conducted to critically assess knowledge on the location, extent, date, character, condition, significance, quality of the surviving underground archaeological resource. Report also consists description of a walk-over survey.
