Description

Three evaluation trenches were excavated in 2000, on a site to the west of The Avenue, spanning the line of Roman Road 6. Natural deposits were revealed in one of the trenches within 0.30m of the modern ground surface. A probably alluvial deposit, containing Roman pottery, was revealed in the westernmost trench, which may be associated with the flooding of a natural watercourse, the Bur Dyke. NMR information: Yorkshire Museum code: 2000.4287. Watching brief, desk-top study & evaluation. Findings not specified by York Arch. Trust Ann. Rep. 29. NMR Microfilm Index; PRN:9400.
