York Historic Environment Record

During May — June 2000 York Archaeological Trust carried out an archaeological watching brief at 112-114 Holgate Road York during a programme of minor building extension. A probable ploughsoil of medieval or earlier origin proved to be the earliest deposit encountered. This was later sealed by a surface and its makeup that is likely to be contemporary with, or to immediately post-date, the construction of the standing building. The surface was in turn overlain by the extant topsoil. NMR Information: Yorkshire Museum code: 2000.567. Monitoring of extension groundworks recorded a medieval ploughsoil but no significant features.
