Description

watching brief, trench This was a watching brief conducted during minor building works at St William’s College and consisted of a shallow trench. All of the uppermost deposits were modern, those lying directly underneath were found to be a series of loose deposits thought to be possible evidence for the backfilling of pre-existing cellar lying in the western corner of the building. This was thought to be the case due to the observation of certain characteristics of the existing buildings structure as well as the loose nature of the recovered deposits which have all the characteristics of being backfill. NMR: Yorkshire Museum accession code: 1999.3. Watching brief undertaken during minor building works revealed a probable backfilled cellar. The work was funded by Milburn's Restaurants Ltd.NMR Microfilm Index PRN: 7768.
