Description

Desktop Study A desktop survey was carried out for a proposed residential development of this site. The assessment carried used a number of survey techniques including the consultation of aerial photographs and the local Sites and Monuments Records to determine the archaeological significance of the site. The nearest site of archaeological interest appeared to be within a distance of 1 kilometre however a Roman mosaic was reportedly exposed in the 19th century but its exact location is unknown..However records indicate that it was approxiamately 100 metres to the east of the proposed delopment. Documentary evidence for the Medieval and Post-Medieval occupation of the village is good with a suggestion that their was a high possibility for evidence of Medieal buildings and associated features surviving on the street frontage. Because of these factors it has been recommended that trial trenching take place ahead of development to determine the nature of deposits, if any, and their survival on this site.
