Description

A Desktop Study was undertaken on the archaeological background of the area and the historical background of the Manor of Acomb. It revealed that a Roman mosaic lies c.100m to the east of the development site. The site is located in the medieval village and there is a high probability of medieval buildings surviving on the street frontage and rear yards, or tofts, extending towards Back Lane being found. The cartographic evidence shows that post-medieval buildings were located on the southern half of the site. NMR Information: Assessment in advance of proposed residential development identified multi-period activity.
