The site is located on the east facing slope of a small hill which runs north-south through the site and which plateaus to the west, beneath the present York bypass. It may have been a permanent settlement.

A settlement of Iron Age date was encountered on this site. It comprised a series of circular enclosures, interpreted as hut circles. Larger ditches were found which appeared to delineate the settlement.

Iron Foundry. Run by John Walker after he sold what is known as Walker's foundry in 1850, a short distance away. The Yorkshire Evening Press Office now stands there.
