Between the 24th and the 31st January 2019 York Archaeological Trust conducted an evaluation and borehole survey at 9 The Crescent, York (SE 59563 51394). The work was undertaken for SPV to help inform a planning application. The works involved the excavation and recording of one 8m x 8m trench and five boreholes. The evaluation and boreholes revealed horticultural and agricultural soils dating from the medieval and post-medieval periods. These soils sealed four pits, three of which contained 2nd-3rd century Roman pottery. There was no evidence of any funeral activity indicating that this part of The Crescent was outside the Roman cemetery known along Blossom Street.
