The discovery of an inhumation burial in this area is not unusual adjacent to the Roman road. Its alignment is also not unusual for the Roman period. What is problematical is its date, but having been inserted in the upper portion of a backfilled roadside ditch or in a build-up of agricultural material that sealed the south-eastern side of the Roman road may indicate a later Roman date, perhaps 3rd or 4th century AD.
