Source/Archive record SYO2524 - Boundary Wall, Bootham Park Hospital, Union Terrace

Title Boundary Wall, Bootham Park Hospital, Union Terrace
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2020

Abstract/Summary

The wall was demolished by hand and the bricks cleaned for re-use. The ground level to the car park to the east of the boundary wall was c.0.50m higher than that of the hospital property to the west. The difference between the two levels was made up entirely of tarmac and hardcore. After the brickwork was removed to the lower ground level, it was decided that a foundation trench would not be necessary because of the solid state of the lower section of walling. The watching brief then ceased and the wall was built on the existing foundations. No archaeological deposits were disturbed during this programme of works. It is clear however, that any further work in the area would require archaeological observation.
