Abstract/Summary

The potential for the presence of archaeological deposits from the Roman to modern periods at 22-26 Blossom Street, York. Previous archaeoloigcal investigation in the area have identified extensive Roman remains including the Blossom Street Roman Cemetery, Roman Roads 9 and 10, as well as the remains of Roman building structures between 13.57-14.50m AOD. At least 0.50m of disturbed dark soil covers the Roman remains in this area, suggesting post-Roman clearing and dumping. During the medieval period the site was within an area of agricultural land. Due to 17th – 19th century garden landscaping of the Blossom Street area, Roman archaeology may be encountered at a relatively shallow depth within the garden area of the site.
