A level 2 photographic survey of the cellar of number 10 Dewsbury Terrace, York, North Yorkshire, was undertaken by York Osteoarchaeology Ltd in February 2016 on behalf of Mr Richard Hemmingway in advance of the refurbishment of the property (Planning reference: 14/00352/LBC). The photographic survey was undertaken to fulfil a condition of planning prior to construction works taking place at the residence. The building is Grade II listed and forms part of a terrace designed by the architect George Townsend Andrews. The construction of Dewsbury Terrace was undertaken as part of the development of the Priory Gardens, the gardens of Benedictine Priory of the Holy Trinity. Construction of Dewsbury Terrace began in 1854 and was completed only shortly before the death of the architect. The survey has revealed that the cellar appears to have undergone minor alterations involving the blocking up of a window in the north-eastern elevation of the back room of the cellar, which may have occurred at the time of the kitchen extension in the 1970s. In the front room alterations to the chimney stack appear to have occurred, resulting in the damage of the floor, which appears to have been re-laid in some places.
