Abstract/Summary

The Cliftongate site (the site) has been identified in the local plan as a strategic housing development area ST14. The scheme is currently in development and a number of surveys are required to inform the evolving masterplan and identify opportunities and constraints at the site. 1.2 The site is known to contain below ground archaeological remains and extant remnants of the WWII RAF Clifton Moor. Archaeological investigation is therefore required to inform the developing scheme and potential planning application to enable an informed decision to be made on planning permission. 1.3 This Project Design has been prepared in consultation with John Oxley (Archaeologist for York City Council). The work will be carried out in accordance with this Project Design, and according to the principles of the Institute for Archaeologists (IfA) Code of Conduct and all relevant standards and guidance.
