Full Description
Pair of almshouses, now craft centre. Dated 1899. By WG and A  Penty. Pink mottled brick in English garden-wall bond, with  orange-red brick quoins and dressings; ashlar steps and  buttress bases; stone coped gable ends with brick kneelers,  and brick end stacks to tiled roof.  STYLE: Arts and Crafts.  EXTERIOR: 1-storey 3-bay front, with battered angle and  intermediate buttresses. In centre, paired doors with  small-pane glazed lights, beneath flat arches of gauged brick  with ashlar keyblocks. To left and right, 4-light canted bay  windows with small-pane casements. Modillion eaves. Right  return: commemorative cartouche set in extruded chimney stack,  with date in low relief. Inscription on either side of  cartouche reads: "THESE ALMSHOUSES WERE ERECTED BY PUBLIC  SUBSCRIPTION TO THE MEMORY OF THE LATE SIR JOSEPH TERRY".  INTERIOR: not inspected.
