126 The Mount is one of a terrace of houses of individual designs built on The Mount between Dalton Terrace and Holgate Road. These houses were built individually throughout the 1830s and 1840s, although it is possible (as suggested by RCHME in their unpublished notes that the architect of 126, 118 and 120 is probably the same person). The terrace of houses are all three storeys (some with basements), some have stucco facades and others, such as No.126, are plain brick. Architectural details include first floor decorative iron balconies, bay windows, strong cornice lines and fanlights above front doors (York Central Historic Core CAA, p446).

Building recording undertaken due to proposed alterations to the basement coal store. The basement
is reached via an internal staircase from the ground floor that leads to a circulation space. From here can be accessed the coal store and also a utility/plant room, pantry, workshop and office. However, it is only the coal store and lobby to it that retains an original brick laid floor. This room is located at the eastern corner of the basement with access via a coal shute to the rear yard.
