Full Description
A section by T Tolhurst for the York Excavation Group
was cut at 33 Huntington Road. A Roman road with metalling of two
periods was encountered and the edge of the ditch found but not
explored further because of the high water table. The road
appeared to be exceptionally wide, approx. 9m in the first place,
with two later extensions filling in the earlier ditches and
increasing the final width to approx. 15.5m. It is mentioned
that previous excavations had taken place to ascertain the course
of this road which leads from the porta decumana, but no further
details are given.
