Monument record MYO4339 - Cemetery (unmarked)

Summary

During groundworks for a single storey extension a significant amount of human remains were encountered- mostly being disarticulated with three articulated human burials being present. The articulated burials were laid in a supine position and orientated west to east as is common with Christian burials. Later medieval (11th to 15th century) quarrying is likely to have disturbed this earlier burial ground, which is located outside the parameters of the existing churchyard and church (St Mary's). The burials have not been officially dated - the best samples weredeposited at the Yorkshire Museum the rest were re-buried (SE 53764 47942).
