Monument record MYO4065 - Drinking Trough

Summary

An inscription reads “In memory of Henry Richardson of Cherry Hill, York 1813-1895”. Mr Richardson was proprietor of a tannery on Cherry Hill in the latter half of the 19th Century and a co-founder of York branch of the RSPCA in 1864. In respect of this, on the reverse the inscription reads “A righteous man regarded the life of his beast”. A memorial to a respected pillar of the local community. Nominated for inclusion on the Local List of Heritage Assets.
