Monument record MYO3766 - Carriage Works (1884, 1886)

Summary

The york central audit of heritage assets report mentions that the carriage was constructed in 1884 and 1886 and later extended in 1897-9. The canteen building is the last remaining social building in carriage works complex, interesting architecture including ‘oriel’ windows at either end. Nominated for inclusion on York's Local List of heritage assets. Built by the North Eastern Railway in 1880-84. A fully integrated site whose buildings comprised a lodge, offices and stores, smiths shop, paint shop, two carriage building and repair shops, a saw mill, machine shop, and drying shed. The works were altered in 1880-5, 1897-1900, 1900-6, 1909 and 1914.

NMR Information:

Built by the North Eastern Railway in 1880-84. A fully integrated site whose buildings comprised a lodge, offices and stores, smiths shop, paint shop, two carriage building and repair shops, a saw mill, machine shop, and drying shed. The works were altered in 1880-5, 1897-1900, 1900-6, 1909 and 1914. (1)
