Monument record MYO3534 - Round Barrow Kexby

Summary

Aerial photographs record a round barrow cemetery as cropmarks to the south of Londesborough Lodge in Kexby parish, centred on SE 6923 5220. The group comprises two large concentric ring-ditches (one monument only partly showing), approximately 50m across, and three smaller single ring-ditches (one only partly revealed). The group can probably be dated to the Early Bronze Age period. Fragmentary linear features in the adjacent area may represent parts of mortuary enclosures associated with or predating the funerary monuments.

Full Description

Aerial photographs record a round barrow cemetery as cropmarks to the south of Londesborough Lodge in Kexby parish, centred on SE 6923 5220. Adjacent National Grid references for the area are SE 6924 5220, SE 6934 5229, SE 6922 5230, SE 6923 5218, SE 6934 5224, SE 6918 5211. The group comprises two large concentric ring-ditches (one monument only partly showing), approximately 50m across, and three smaller single ring-ditches (one only partly revealed). The group can probably be dated to the Early Bronze Age period. Fragmentary linear features in the adjacent area (centred on SE 6915 5220) may represent parts of mortuary enclosures associated with or earlier than the funerary monuments .
