Monument record MYO3235 - Ridge and Furrow Askham Richard
Summary
A system of Medieval ridge and furrow cultivation in the parish of Askham Richard visible as earthworks and cropmarks on air photographs. The field system is mainly contained in the southern two thirds of the parish, possibly because the estate of Askham Grange [SE 54 NW 15] extends across the northern section of the parish. The ridge and furrow has mostly been plough-levelled but there is still a certain amount that was still extant in the 1980s around the modern village. There is a large area of ridge and furrow just to the south of the village of Askham Richard which does not appear to respect the modern civil parish boundary and so falls into the parishes of both Bilbrough and Askham Richard.
