Full Description
NMR Information:
A Roman road from the S.E. is last known 650yds. south of the York city boundary. From Pool Bridge (642462) to Germany Beck (622494) the line is represented by a parish boundary running straight for two and three-eighths miles and aligned upon the S.E. gate of the fort. This line produced crosses the
city boundary about 70yds. east of the junction between Mitchels Lane and Hesslington Lane. (1)
No remains of this road exist between Pool Bridge and Heslington Lane. The parish boundary takes the form of a series of straight hedges and dikes with mainly arable land on its west
side and pasture on its east. Between Germany Beck and Heslington Lane are pasture fields. These have no surface indications of any road alignment. The whole of the route has long been locally used as a public right of way. (2)
