Summary

An 18th century house, later divided into two, possibly as part of the circa 1800 alterations. The building is now occupied by shops and flats.

Full Description

House, later divided into two houses; now shop, cafe and flats. C18, altered c1800. Stucco with pantiled roof behind parapet.

EXTERIOR: 2 storeys plus attic. Facade has two 2-storey canted bay windows which have glazing bar sashes and leaded roofs above dentilled timber cornices. The 2 attic dormers have catslide roofs and horizontal sashes with glazing bars. The 2 doorways, to left and right, each have doors of 6 raised and fielded panels and doorcases with fluted engaged columns, open dentilled pediments, and semicircular overlights. Between the 2 houses there is a lead rainwater hopper and downspout, and a chimney in front of the ridge.

Houses, Nos. 23, 25, of two storeys with stuccoed walls and pantiled roof, were built in the 18th century as a single dwelling. The building was remodelled c. 1800; bay windows were added, new entrances with reeded columns and open pediments to the doorcases were formed, and a second staircase was put in.
