Full Description
NMR Information:
(SE 69785151) Mill Hill (NAT).
"There was presumably a windmill at Kexby in the Middle Ages,
giving its name to Mill field. It probably stood on a mound still
existing in Millfield wood".
Situated in a flat area of dense mixed woodland at SE 69785150 is
an earthen mound 22.0m diameter and 1.6m high. It is surrounded
by a much infilled ditch 2.0m wide and 0.4m deep broken by a possible
causeway about 4.5m wide in the south east. The ditch moves away from
the mound in the north west and there is a short off shoot channel
in the west. The centre of the mound is relatively flat (about 13.0m
diameter) and there appears to have been a slight central
excavation with the debris thrown on the north-west of the top, but
there is no trace of any stone, foundations, or cross shaped
depression to support its use as a mill mound, but there seems
little reason to doubt this classification.
Resurveyed at 1:2500.
