Full Description

Includes: No.5 MONKGATE. Shops. Mid C19. Brick with hipped slate roof. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys. 3 bays to Lord Mayor's Walk and one bay to Monkgate, with corner of slightly recessed curved brickwork between. The windows to the upper storeys are glazing bar sashes with brick flat arches. On the ground floor the Monkgate facade has a shopfront with a recessed central doorway and a timber entablature which continues around the corner to occupy the first bay of the Lord Mayor's Walk facade. It has Tuscan pilasters at each side and a second pair flanking a former doorway, now a window, which is set diagonally at the corner of the 2 facades. The right-hand bay facing Lord Mayor's Walk has a shopfront with timber fascia, and the central bay has a pilaster doorcase with voluted caps. Above the 4-panel door there is a plain rectangular overlight. INTERIOR: not inspected.
