Summary

No. 4 Mount Terrace has a flat frontage comprising 2 bays with 8 over 8 sash windows to the main bay and 6 over 6 above the access bay, the central window has a segmental brick arch detail. The design is unusual with access to the main floor level through a stepped formal garden and decorative front doorway reached via ten stone steps. The doorcase has engaged fluted columns, friezes with triglyphs, and mutuled cornice. The door has 6 raised and fielded panels with a plain semi-circular overlight above. The rear ground level is higher than the front in essence creating a basement level which is read as lower ground level to the front.

Full Description

No. 4 Mount Terrace has a flat frontage comprising 2 bays with 8 over 8 sash windows to the main bay and 6 over 6 above the access bay, the central window has a segmental brick arch detail.
The design is unusual with access to the main floor level through a stepped formal garden and decorative front doorway reached via ten stone steps. The doorcase has engaged fluted columns, friezes with triglyphs, and mutuled cornice. The door has 6 raised and fielded panels with a plain semi-circular overlight above. Two houses. 1827-8. Brick with slate roof. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys above a basement. Each house 2 bays. The windows, including the basement windows, are glazing bar sashes. Each house has a single window on the ground floor, with a segmental head. The 1st floor windows have a sill band. The doorways, at the left, are reached by external stone steps and have doorcases with engaged fluted columns, friezes with triglyphs, and mutuled cornices. The doors have 6 raised and fielded columns and above them there are plain semicircular overlights. The gutters are carried on rectangular timber brackets. Ridge chimneys to left of each house, and axial stacks behind ridge of each house. INTERIOR: not inspected.
