Description

A watching brief was undertaken on a trench dug for work required on the sewer, close to the presumed position of St Benedict's Church. Recent excavations in the vicinity had produced human burials associated with this church. During the watching brief several sherds of pottery dating from the late 13th or early 14th century were found; however, the layer containing the pottery also contained modern rubble. It would appear that this deposit consisted of the backfill from the original sewer trench. Museum Acc Code: 1990.1014 Parent record.
