Description

This evaluation consisted of two archaeological trenches 2m square and 1m deep. Both trenches revealed well-preserved archaeological deposits close to the modern ground surface. Trench 1 showed a large timber llined refuse pit rich in organics and ceramic remains and related to waste disposal at the rear of properties on the St Saviourgate frontage. Trench 2 contained a medieval building and possibly floors of earlier buildings. No deposits later than the late-16th century were present in either trench indicating the truncation of the deposits in recent times.
