Description

Watching Brief: In May 2002 York Archaeological Trust carried out an archaeological watching brief on three trenches excavated for the refurbishment of a 48m stretch of the York City Walls and during the consolidation of the roof masonry of Tower 7 (Saddler Tower). This work was located between chainages 352 and 400 (NGR SE 6001 5192). Evidence for the inner face of the medieval curtain wall and the wall at the rear of the 19th century wall walk was found. All deposits observed between the two walls appeared to be post-medieval or modern.
