An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by On-Site Archaeology Ltd at 98 – 104 Holgate Road, York, during groundwork reduction associated with the construction of a replacement single storey structure at the rear of the properties. The watching brief revealed features associated with the development of the mid-19th century terrace housing and comprised of a foundation wall, brick floor and levelling deposits. Also recorded was an extant red brick lined well that was most likely also associated with mid-19th century developments. The groundworks were insufficient in depth to encounter any archaeological deposits of prehistoric or Roman date known to survive within the area.
