Description

On 20th September 2017 a watching brief on an electric cable trench was undertaken by York Archaeological Trust. The objective of the watching brief was to record any archaeological deposits, features or buried structures exposed by the ground works. The site lies within York’s designated Area of Archaeological Importance and the electric cable was being fed into the red tower which is a Grade I Listed Building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The cable trench was excavated to a depth of 0.50m BGL. The only observed deposit was topsoil. No archaeological features or structures were encountered during the electric cable trench at The Red Tower.
