Description

Groundworks associated with an construction of a new extension to a residential building at 100 The Mount, York were subject to a watching brief. The works were limited to disturbance to demolition material probably related to previous phases of extensions at the rear of the present building with no post-medieval or earlier deposits disturbed. However, residual material was collected from this demolition deposit, including a single fragment of human bone, possibly related to Romano-British burials known elsewhere in the area. This residual material may have been disturbed by the excavation of the cellars at this address and its neighbours.
