Description

A watching brief was carried out on this site during demolition work. As series of trenches were monitored and revealed well preserved deposits of a broadly Medieval date which was indicated by pottery sherds and building debris. In one trench a mortared limestone wall was recorded but was found to be truncated by a modern foundation. No evidence for post medieval occupation was recovered, however this was thought to be due to the modern development having destroyed any deposits of this date as it was found that the modern development had also destroyed archaeological layers of earlier date also.
