Description

A pit containing animal bone and Roman tile was sealed by a solid layer of pebbles and stones bonded with clay, the surface of which showed evidence of repair. A series of pits and post-holes cut the probable road surface and were sealed by levelling material containing pottery of the 10th century and later. A fragment of plank floor and a scattering of stake-holes were identified as evidence for medieval structures. A foundation trench of post-medieval date was truncated by the foundations for a 19th century tannery as were many earlier deposits. RCHME microfilm PRN 4659.
