Description

York Archaeological Trust carried out a watching brief on four house plots (Plots 90-94) on a housing development at Manor Farm, Rawcliffe. This was the third stage of evaluation undertaken on the site. The watching brief followed recommendations made by North Yorkshire County Council's Assistant Archaeological Officer, which were based on a project design devised by York Archaeological Trust. The house plots straddled the line of a large, linear earthwork that was observed during the earthwork survey. It was thought that the earthwork might represent the line of a substantial ditch marking the boundary between the townships of Rawcliffe and Skelton presumably during the medieval period.
