Description

Between 1st March – 25th May 2011 York Archaeological Trust (YAT) maintained a periodic watching brief on ground-works associated with the construction of three detached houses, their garages and their drainage on a block of development land to the rear of 13A The Old Village, Huntington, York. The foundation trenches of house plots 1, 2 and 3 were observed (as well as service trenches). Prior to the machining of the trenches themselves both plots were subject to a plot-wide topsoil strip, generally between 250-300mm deep. Both plots are located on ground that slopes very gently westwards, towards the River Foss. All foundation trenches were around 700mm wide and up to 900mm deep.
