Between the 3rd and 8th August 2007, York Archaeological Trust maintained an archaeological watching brief during early groundworks associated with the construction of a new sports centre at Stirling Road, Clifton Moor, York. The work entailed the observation of topsoil stripping and ground reduction in advance of the construction of a new access road, the proposed new building and a car parking area. This watching brief has produced evidence for a number of phases of activity, mostly only broadly datable and probably post-medieval or modern but with hints of earlier material.
