Description
Between 1st and 8th September 2008, York Archaeological Trust undertook a watching brief at the Vangarde site, north-east of central York. The site was adjacent to Pigeon Cote Lane / Jockey Lane, Monks Cross, York. The watching brief involved the observation and recording of eight machine dug test pits. As well as the test pits, three boreholes were sunk and six shallow hand dug pits were excavated for contamination testing samples. These were not watched but copies of the borehole logs and the contamination pit logs have been obtained and consulted during the preparation of this report. The test pits were dug by Structured Soils Ltd and the boreholes were sunk by JB Site Investigations with a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer from Arup present to supervise and coordinate the work.
