Description
SEWER TRENCH
sewer excavations revealed parts of a Roman building including part of a bathhouse.
Found in 1852, recorded in RCHME Vol1 Eburacum, mon 19 p52.
Preserved timber indicates anaeorobic conditions. RCHME report that the floor-level of the building was "8 feet below the modern streeet". Estimated AOD height in stratigraphy tab therefore is very uncertain [inputted as 13.3m AOD but this is surely too high]. Probably lies on a terrace below the 'Bishophill Senior' terrace
