A single trench 6mx1.5m was excavated to a depth of 1m on the site of a proposed toilet extension to the Merchant Taylors Hall. All the deposits which were excavated were of post-medieval date. The lowest deposits were cleaned and recorded but not excavated. They were of medieval date and appear to represent the well-preserved remains of a 14th century structure. They consisted of an edge-set tile hearth, a brick wall, brick floor and associated deposits. They may be part of the earlier guildhall of the Fraternity of St John the Baptist against which the present hall was built and which was referred to in 1415. RCHME microfilm PRN: 3278.
