Description

borehole survey, watching brief A watching brief was carried out during ground works associated with a housing development. The results of this work was the recovery of well preserved peat deposits which yielded a number of finds associated with prehistoric activity. In the northern area of the site extensive deposits were recorded which was possibly as a result of an attempt to raise the ground level during the Roman period. Subsequent to this work a series of boreholes were taken top determine the nature and extent of the archaeological deposits. The results of these holes were found to largely confirm the results of the watching brief. The peat deposists across the site appear to be extensive but irregular with two large concentrations. The report concluded that these peat deposits are under threat of drying out due to trenching activity on this site.
